Math
In third grade we continue to build fact fluency. It is not only important to be able to quickly and efficiently know the fact but also one should try to visualize how it looks on a die, domino or as part of a ten, hundred, etc. Some ways to practice math fact fluency are:
XtraMath (sign up for the extended 6 second time)
Reflex Math (the classroom teacher has the code for your child)
www.khanacademy.org (this is a fabulous site to go to when you need an explanation or a review of a concept. They have visuals along with the explanation and will review addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and other concepts like time, measurement, fractions, etc.)
Youtube.com - Schoolhouse Rock multiplication series
Youtube.com - multiplication songs - Mrs. Savage

Reading
Nightly reading is essential to your child's reading development. Take the time to read with them and ask simple questions as you go along such as "why do you think that happened", or "how would you feel about that?" Often times, an open ended question like that will open up a great conversation! Enjoy the time reading with your child. These are special times! Please see me for reading material at your child's instructional level.
